On Tuesday, last week, Arizona Center United Blood Services announced that there is no longer a blood donation deferral for people who have received tattoos from an established and regulated Arizona store. The organization is allowing people to donate blood without having to wait because they have fresh ink.
United Blood Services said that people can start the process to be removed from the deferral list by emailing [email protected] with “Arizona Tattoo” in the subject line and to include your full name and donor ID in the body.
In the past, people with a new tattoo had to wait 12 months before they could donate blood. This was due to concerns about spreading hepatitis. Recently more states have been requiring regulation and licensing of tattoo parlors, including Arizona. Today a handful of states still do not regulate tattoo parlors for this type of thing.
