Free money is nice, right? Well some states arent feeling that way. Massachusetts is saying restrictions should be put on the uses of welfare, prohibiting things like gambling, getting tattoos, buying alcohol and strippers. (Shouldnt that have been done a long time ago?)
“If you’re not abusing the program, then you should really have no problem with these reforms,” said state Rep. Shaunna O’Connell of Massachusetts, according to this article from Fox News. We always thought that any money being provided by the government was monitored for strict uses, but you learn something new every day!
The article also says that some states, including Arizona, have taken the restrictions one step further by banning the use of welfare money for porn, cruises and psychic readings. Around 4.4 million people received about $30 billion in cash assistance in fiscal year 2011 through the federal-state welfare program known as Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, the article says.
We think this regulation is long overdue and will help with the stereotype of those who receive welfare. No more tattoos means nothing but positive things for those who really need the money. What do you think? Is this step long overdue? Let us know in the comments section!
